François Emile Barraud 1899-1934

peintre suisse

François Emile Barraud (b.1899, La Chaux-de-Fonds - d.1934 Geneva) .
Barraud was the son of a Swiss clock engraver who grew up alongside three brothers, all painters - Aimé (1902-54,) Aurèle (1903-69) and Charles (1897-1997.) François was the most talented by a distance. He travelled regularly to Paris to study, and was eventually represented by Galerie Moos in Geneva. He married Marie, the subject of many of his paintings, in 1924 and had one major solo exhibition in his home town in 1929. He struggled with illness his entire life and died of tuberculosis at the age of 35. Dr. Arthur Stoll (1887-1971) held a major collection of François Barraud's works in Basel and his works are also held in the Musée des beaux-arts, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Coninx Museum, Zurich and The Foundation for Art, Culture and History in Winterthur
